Ms. Tamara
Carter, MSW, LCSW is
a lecturer with the Department
of Social Work. She has
over 15 years of experience in
social work practice. Her
career has focused on family and
children’s services in the
counties of Cumberland and
Moore. Her professional
experiences include the areas of
Foster Care, Investigations,
Treatment, Work First Employment
Services, Temporary Assistance
for Needy Families-Child Only
Program, Child Day Care
Services, Teen Pregnancy
Prevention, and Adoptions where
she was the facilitator of the
Post Adoption Support Group.
Ms. Carter was also one of the
instructors in the adoptive and
foster parenting training
program at the Cumberland County
Dept. of Social Services from
2004-2007. She was a recipient of the
Annie Kizer Bost award while
attending UNC. This award is
given to the MSW student who, in
the opinion of the faculty,
shows the most promise for
leadership in child welfare.
While enrolled at UNC, Ms.
Carter was selected as a Child
Welfare Education Collaborative
scholar. She has also
served as a field supervisor for
Methodist University.
Ms. Carter is a licensed
clinical social worker in the
state of North Carolina.
