A Little
About Me
Let me tell you a few
things about myself so that we can get better acquainted. I
have been teaching for forty-two years. (I'm getting
old). I went to undergraduate school at Virginia State
University and received a BS degree in Psychology and certification
in Special Education and Elementary Education. (My parents
were teachers and you know the apple does not fall far from the
tree). I taught at the Petersburg Training School for the
Mentally Retarded and continued my education at the University of
Virginia in Charlottesville where I received a M.Ed. in Special
Education. After four years at the Training School,
I went back to my alma mater (good old Virginia State University )
as an instructor in the Special Education department for two years.
I realized I was getting older and decided it was time for me to
look for a husband. (I found one! But it took a long time to
hunt him down, however; I have managed to keep anyone from taking
him for thirty-seven years).
In 1970, we moved to Norfolk, Virginia so
that Floyd could go back to school and I began working at Norfolk State University.
My biological clock was winding down so I took time to have two daughters, Lia and
Melanie. Soon after Melanie's birth, I decided to go back to school and get a
doctorate. I attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg,
Va. Melanie is a graduate from Howard Dental School in Washington, DC
and has just presented me with two grandchildren (Fallon Sanae and Farrah Melań), and Lia
is also working as an OBGYN in
Reading. PA. She is also pursuing a Master's in Psychiatry.
In 1981 we moved
to Fayetteville and I have been at Fayetteville State University since that
time.
