| This site is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Izola Young,
former Assistant Professor of English at Fayetteville State University.
In the late 1970's she played a vital role in initiating the
Charles W. Chesnutt Arts Festival, an annual event that continues to be
presented each April at Fayetteville State University as a means of paying
tribute to Charles Chesnutt. Dr. Young also helped
plan and implement "Fiction, Social Change, and Charles W. Chesnutt's
Fayetteville," a project sponsored by the National Endowment for the
Humanities in 1988. When Dr. Young died in 1992, Fayetteville State
University and the scholarly community lost one of Chesnutt's most astute
and eloquent admirers and critics. |
