BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Dr. Joseph F. Johnson is Professor of Educational Leadership in the School of Education's Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations at Fayetteville State University.  He has served as Dean of the School of Education at Fayetteville State University for five years from 1997-2002 and two years from 2004-2006. He has also served as the Coordinator of the Master of School Administration Program and served as Coordinator of the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program from 2002-2004 and the Director of the Ed. D. Program from 2006-2007. 

Before joining Fayetteville State University May 1, 1997, Dr. Johnson was the Associate Superintendent for Administrative and Support Services for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for four years.  He was also an associate professor of education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington prior to joining Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.  He served as the Associate Superintendent of Schools for New Hanover County Schools for two years and was an assistant superintendent for Durham County Schools for five years.  He also served as an assistant superintendent in Rocky Mount, North Carolina for three years.  He has worked as the Supervisor of Operations and Services for an educational consortium among five public school districts in the Richmond (Virginia) metropolitan area and has held various leadership positions with Richmond Public Schools over a span of fourteen (14) years.
