Art provides an excellent insight into the culture of different times and places. Indeed, it is a big part of the culture of these times and places. Several museums have excellent web sites, and these sites are worth a visit to get a better picture of the cultures students often learn about only through words.

• The Louvre (Paris): One of the world's premier museums also has one of the best collections of online images.
• The Uffizi Gallery (Florence): The best museum for Italian Renaissance painting has a number of masterpieces available online. (Hint: go to the Artists Index.)
• The National Gallery (London): Has many reproductions online.
• The State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg): Has many images online, if service is somewhat slow at times.

• The North Carolina Museum of Art (Raleigh): Less than two hours from Fayetteville, the North Carolina Museum has a fine collection in European art.
