Catching the Cultural Express
A journey through African-American culture and history

You and your students are invited to a day of events at Fayetteville State University in connection with our celebration of Black History Month.  This year the theme of our celebration will be

"The Power of the Creative Spirit"

"Catching the Cultural Express" is a morning of cultural and educational activities designed to allow Cumberland County area students to share in our festivities:

  • A Tour of Black History Month Displays: Departments and campus organizations are preparing displays illustrating aspects of Black history. Guides will be available to escort students and to explain the exhibits. (9:30-11:00 a.m.)

  • A Conversation with Philip Smallwood: The Artist in residence at FSU for Black History Month will meet with students to talk about his work.  Click here for more information about Mr. Smallwood.
