Dr. Emma Jean "EJ" Williams began her tenure at Fayetteville State University in the Department of Social Sciences during the Fall Semester of 1996. She earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Reed College; a Masters degree and a doctoral degree in Urban Studies from Portland State University. Her tireless devotion to educating students was evident for all to see and emulate. She was truly loved by all that knew her. She will be forever in our hearts and she will be missed.

Personal Philosophy of Dr. E. J. Williams

"My personal and spiritual philosophy is to allow myself and those around me the freedom to be as
they are:

bullet I practice non-judgment. I don't try to force solutions on problems. This usually creates new problems. Solutions spontaneously emerge out of problems. Every single problem is a seed of some great opportunity.

bulletI will not allow myself to be influenced by the opinions and criticism of others. I relinquish attachment to the outcome. I will feel no need to convince or persuade others to accept my point of view. I will practice acceptance.

bulletThis moment is as it should be. I won't become defensive nor will I blame others. I will not be resentful."
